The list below is a job requirement list posted for a digital print industry sales rep in the US.
- Knowledge of Prepress and Digital Print work flows
- BA/BS or similar degree is required.
- Enterprise software or printing sales experience
- Excellent listening, communication and writing skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in MS Office packages including Word, Excel etc
- Proficiency in using CRM applications, such as Salesforce.com
- Self-starter and self-motivated with the ability to work on your own
- Strong presentation skills and experience with Webex and/or Microsoft Live Meeting
Impressive. But would such a person even exist here?
It well shows the huge skills gap between the expectations of the US
and Australasian markets. What's interesting too is the strong
expectations in the area of CRM and online client communications
toolsets. There's inevitably a higher terciary skills requirements too.
You'll recall the articles and videos by the owner of PrintForLess, who
noted the high degree of self-reliance for those running the presses,
prepress and customer support areas. They were all exceptionally
intelligent and well qualified, hence there was little need for a
typical management structure overhead. With in skilled people having
all the information they need via a central management system, the need
for actual production managers is quickly eliminated.
The bigger question is, is our industry ready to take on such highly
qualified people? Can we afford it? Would they even want to?
