Auckland WordCamp 2014 Review

akwordcampOn the 26th July we helped host the Ak WordCamp event at the AUT, where WordPress users and geeks got together to learn and talk.

Unlike most of the earlier WordCamps, the focus this time was upon educating novices and the newer user, even discussing the free option which is rare at WordCamps. We featured many speakers and talks around blogging, writing, case studies and some tech tips towards the end.

We were especially gratified with the larger than expected turnout, filling the superb 140-seat venue at AUT. From this event and the great feedback provided, we can plan the 2015 Wordcamp, as well as organise our followup monthly Auckland WordPress Users meetup evenings, held on third Tuesday of each month. Having more speakers each month is the key I think, with more eager volunteers now on tap to help out.

logo-meetupUser groups like this and the use of meetups especially is a wonderful online resource to physically connect with others of similar interests. As it happens, NZ has one of the highest per population numbers of meetup groups, across hundreds of interests. Check it out and if there isn’t one you find, start one yourself.….
